Of course now that I've bought handled ascenders I see this scheme...

I like the fact that it looks so small and out of the way.

Handled ascenders are good basic equipment. You can set up the same system that Gerry demonstrates with your handled ascender on the left side and a single loop footlock on your right foot. Or add a Pantin on the right side.

You could always leverage Gerry's bungee auto-advancer idea to make a hands-free double footloop using a handled ascender. Assuming you have footloops for one of your ascenders, put the ascender on the running end of your rope below the hitch, run a bungee from the top of the ascender to the static side of your DRT system (the way Gerry does in the video), up you go.

That is a sweet system! Very simple and I already have most of the gear included. I should give it a trial the next time I get to climb. I like the fact that there are not funky things hanging from or around your neck like other systems that I have seen discussed recently.
Thanks for the link Dave.

I do think it seems odd for him to modify a Pantin rather than using a Croll or Basic.

I sewed together a foot strap and used a Basic on the extension. It works well. Often we use what we have around, and I could see where Jerry might have had a Pantin in his bag with a worn out footstrap...

I have the same configurationa and since I already have a Basic Ascender, I used that together with the Pantin.

There is another one I have that uses a Gibbs Ascender on the same idea and it works nicely too. ( A little more hassle to remove it and install it) but not much.

I agree you use what ever you already have and adapt to the new situation.
