Alternating girth hitched slings works.

Getting a line into the top with a throwline, then anchor the line at the base of the tree.

What are you climbing for?

Would you like a lanyard spliced up, or anything else for that matter??? Give me a call- 323-384-7770 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

I have a palm tree in my yard and it needs some pruning. Are you suggesting SRT? If so, I've never done that.

For that I suggest you call a pro. If you've never done a palm before- they can be quiet hazardous.

I've seen palm trimming done for realllly cheap. You should be able to get multiple free estimates.

As Nick said, I would use girth hitched slings.

I used that technique on this Aspen tree while I was camping out and needed to climb a tree:

I did the same on this one, but set the rope at the top so I could descend the rope back down:

Here is a link to a series of great videos from EKKA in Australia. He is the expert on Palms clearing, pruning and removals. Very educational videos about safety for future climbers. (arborists or recreational)

Paolo in Italy invented a nice contraction to climb palms it is called a "bicicletta"

Sitka,

No fires or anything exciting. I was just wearing some cheap Hi-Tec hiking boots (I love them though, they're super light) and some climbing pants that I think I got at REI... :)

i Have a palm tree in my front yard to its about 8m high

First i got an extension ladder and climbed right up to the top of the tree just underneath those palm nut things and then i got a climbing sling, and i just simply wrapped the sling around the tree got a carabiner from the hardware shop and bought a simple rope put it through the carabiner and then i was done.

when i wanted to climb it i would tie my rope to the rope up the tree then pull it over

Hope it helps
