Here's a SRT technique from canyoning adapted to tree climbing with a cambium saver.
The advantages are that you have no worries about a noose around the branch that is cinched to tight and there is no tree/rope friction when retrieving the rope.
1. Run the rope through the cambium saver. The rappel side of the rope should hang out the large opening of the cambium saver.
2. Set the rope to desired length. The amount of slack on the retrieval side does not matter as long as there is enough rope to tie a clove hitch and attach a throwline/pull cord.
3. On the retrieval side, tie a clove hitch on the back of a locking biner. Allow this to ride up and against the small opening of the cambium saver. At the same time, attach the throwline/pull cord to the rope however you desire.
4. Rappel to the ground. Make sure you have a blocking knot on the end of the climbing rope and pull your rope and cambium saver to the ground.
