Clove hitches are not descending knots!


But the closely related Munter is! Pull out one leg of the clove hitch to create a belay/rappell knot that works in both directions.

Never heard of the clove hitch being used for a descender and would recomend avoiding it. The munter has a distinguished history and is a recognized control device. Twists the rope, though.
