Interresting vids. Beauty of a tree. Looks like an ancient oak. I'm not as limber as I once was. You won't find me prancing around in the canopy like this gent.

Certainly not my tree climbing style. I used to do sort of similar things when I was a child. But certainly not approaching this guy's ability! This guy needs to to contact the International Tree Climbing Day. This organization does nothing but free climbing. He would probably become a God in their eyes.

That type of climbing is closer to parquor, evolved from street parquor to trees. This guy is one of the best parquor style tree climbers out there:

Notice that the guys in both vids are built like rock climbers. SKINNY. Nothing against rock climbers or these ropeless guys, but us regular folk need the gear to go up. I have a pretty good grip. But my finger grip strength isn't all that terrific. Know what I mean? That's one of the things that I like about R&H style of climbing. It allows a wider variety of body types to gain access to the canopy. Myself included.

Agreed Ron. And more so they are practicing a beautiful but very limited form of tree climbing. They can only access trees with low branches and specific trunk or limb configurations. To fully explore the canopy a climber requires rope and harness skills.

I'm sure you're a very skilled free climber. I'm an avid free climber but I could take you to a dozen trees I'm confident you will not be able to climb without a rope. It's really not a big deal, no one is a failure if they can't do something that is far beyond the practical limitations of even the most finely tuned body and mind. There's no reason to pit yourself against rope climbers, many different modes of tree and canopy movement, each is a choice that a tree climber makes based on what they want to accomplish in a tree.
