Newbie in Shreveport------> was created by treebird
Hi all. I'm Lisa, avid Hula-Hooper, reluctant mechanic, transplanted Texan, and wannabe Tree Climber.
So it goes like this...I love to climb trees and we just got stationed at Barksdale AFB wich has lots of beautiful ones....they call to me...beg me to climb them. But the Air Force has this little thing about safety. (Airmen are expensive to make, they pay all our medical bills, and really high life insurance payouts! They really kinda like to keep us in one piece.)
So I had to figure out a way to make climbing trees safe. Found out lots of people are doing it already...less work for me!
I just got my TCI instructional DVD and now I'm shopping for basic DRT gear. I can't wait to try it. I've also ordered four or five books on climbing...I don't even remember them all. I'm still trying to decide if I want to take the BTCC.
Info, tips, encouragement, patience, comments, e-mails, etc welcome.
Also looking for climbers close to me Shreveport, La (I often travel to/thru the DFW area too) to climb with talk to and help me find others to climb with and talk to!
Can't wait to meet everyone!

Hi TreeBird,

Welcome to beautiful world of arboreal adventure.

Are you aware that this labor day weekend
there will be a Recreational Tree Climbing Rendezvous in Colorado. One of the classes being offered at the RTCR is the BTCC. Which will be taught by, none other than, the famous Abe Winters of Tree Climbing USA. This is a great opportunity to meet everyone, take a course and connect with like minded folks.
You can check out www.treeclimbingcolorado.com for more info. A lot of the arbor-nauts who post on this MB will most likely be attending.

Hope to share a branch with you soon.

Welcome!

Adventure-UP!!

Warning - Once you start climbing trees there's no coming back down to earth.

Tree Bird,
Do you ever get to the Lafayette area?
I'll be visiting there with my gear next month. I would be honored to climb with you.

Geof

Hey Geof,
I've been wanting to take some weekend trips this summer. I don't know what your schedule is like or how serious your offer was, but if you are willing to climb on a sat or sun I might be able to join you. I'd love the opportunity to climb with someone else. Warning: I'll be super green. My gear isn't even here yet so depending on when your trip is it would probably be one of my first few times up!
