Please answer the following questions, so I can better assist you(if you say all topics, then that will not allow me to target in. Thus, I would suggest that you should sign-up for one of my Educational Workshops).

1) What type of groups are you working with(church, BSA, GSA, Jerry's Kids, school groups(please let us know if it is Home School, Public, College, etc) special needs, etc)?

2)What type of RTC programs are you wanting to do(H.E.; R.E.; or E.E.)? Do you have any themes or theme base concepts?

3)Do you have to met any type of curriculm and goals?

4) What are the objectives (please note tha this is different from curriculm and goals becuase objectives are measureable. Objectives allow one to know if skills, knowledge, and abilities have been met and also allows for evaluation of educator and student)?

5) Size of group?

I would suggest that if you are working with groups and need activities that you do sign up for a national educational certification course. These courses are run from $25 and up(normal price is $35). If you are working with students, I would strongly suggest that you take Project Learning Tree and Project WILD and Project WET.

wildrice seemed to hit the nail on the head; he listed just about all of the mainstream programs and he asked the right questions. I'll have to take a few of those courses myself...!

hi
thanks for all these questions..help me to think further...

1) What type of groups are you working with(church, BSA, GSA, Jerry's Kids, school groups(please let us know if it is Home School, Public, College, etc) special needs, etc)?

basically i am promoting treeclimbing to school children aged 7-12 years and youths aged 13-20s

2)What type of RTC programs are you wanting to do(H.E.; R.E.; or E.E.)? Do you have any themes or theme base concepts?

just basic treeclimbing using DRT

3)Do you have to met any type of curriculm and goals?

not necessarily, normally treeclimbing is an enrichment activity i.e., outdoor character development. i hope to use treeclimbing to develop leadership qualities & self-esteem

4) What are the objectives (please note tha this is different from curriculm and goals becuase objectives are measureable. Objectives allow one to know if skills, knowledge, and abilities have been met and also allows for evaluation of educator and student)?

main focus is on character development especially leadership qualities

5) Size of group?
15 to 30

thanks for the help

Since you are working with school children, you can incorporate the school curriculum into the climb. This would attract more schools and would increase your caliber of your tree-climbing program (I assuming you have certification and are covered liability). I do not know what state you are in, but each state should have their entire core curriculum with objectives on a website. Here in GA the curriculum for public schools is called GA Performance Standards (GPS). Review these standards and you can incorporate them into a dynamic educational tree-climbing program. This is what the schools are looking for.

For example, in project Learning Tree there are activates dealing with Lichen, which most of the time will grow on trees. Lichen is used by the EPD as water and air quality indicators. So you can have the kids measure how much lichen their is and is their more of one type of lichen than another (some lichen are more prone to pollution then others). Also, some lichen is florescent if you put a black light on it (this would have be a nocturnal climb or you could find some florescent liken and put it in a dark container that the one or two kids could view). Lichen can also be edible and some is used for medical purposes.
The point is that now you have a educational tree climbing program that involves the following concepts that students must master: observation, senses (small, touch, taste, sight, sound) math, reading, writing, graphing, relating to cultures, environmental concerns (Global warming, pollution, fragmentation, etc), habitat, relation of humans and animals/plants, cellar level, collection (make sure you have the proper permits and that you know what species are protected state and federally and permission), classification, could have a mini-mock research project, well the list goes on and on.

Please note the following for students: What is age appropriate?
Modifications for students?
Inclusion methods?
Other?

If you wish to build self-esteem, have them work on branch/limb walking, etc. You can encourage this by using stuff/billow footballs, dice, balls, etc. Have them have to go out on a limb to retrieve the stuff ball. Or have them have to catch and through the stuff ball. This will force them not to hold on to the rope or a limb. It forces them to trust totally more in the gear.

Please respond and let me know how it goes.

Just to clarify the following terms:
H.E. stands for Historical Education
R.E. stands for Recerational Education
E.E. stands for Environmentail Education

I hope that helps.

Please you have any ideas, share

Wild Bill,

If you think that their is enough RTC's that would want to take a Project Learning Tree and Project WILD workshop(I would need 10 to 15 people atleast), I would be glade to set-up a workshop that is a specialty workshop for tree climbing.

You would have to supply your own climbing gear and food and housing. If you are not looking for staff development credit(that is for teachers) then I would ony need two days, if you would want Project WET as well then I would need three days total. I would just charge for the cost of the books, which have been scietifcially tested to work for school groups pre-k to 12 grade. We are talking over 279 proven lessons that work.

Please let me know what you think. If you want more details about his programs, please let me.

Wild Bill,

If a two day or three day workshop is to much, then I could facilitate one workshop a day. So, let say that you want to complete all three workshops in a year, but can only show up for one day workshop. We would hold a Project Learning Tree Workhsop one day, and then do another workhop the following month(s).

I was just completing some forms when I recalled on activity we did.

You did a simulation where we divided the students into groups(loggers, Park Rangers, law enforcement, wildlife bio's, activities, etc.) Some where aloud to climb. It created a problem sovling issue, which means that leadership and other skills are needed.

wow thank wildrice
i will love to attend but i do not reside in US. i am staying in the south east asia region

as i am mainly a treeclimbing instructor, my focus will be on treeclimbing and how it can be incorporated with character development..so thanks for the suggestion of limb walking, catching ball, etc.. u shared about simulation which i find can be modified further in my context. i may probably teach treeclimbing beginners who have went through basic course to learn about treeclimbing set up, treeclimbing class management, etc. let them run the class and i shall function as a safety officer...wat do u think?

your suggestions on linking with academic matters were very useful. i will see how to link up with some academic teachers to explore of using treeclimbing to teach academic knowledge especially biology, math, science, etc. ... the only limit is our imagination:)

thank you alot
