Harness trouble was created by Ryan
Hi Everyone,

I’m having an issue with my harness where, when dangling, the harness tries to pull me at best horizontal and at worst upside down.

I don’t climb often and while the issue has always been there it wasn’t very noticeable as mostly I’ve just been able to use the tree to climb and not spend much time dangling. But currently I’m working on loads of tall Ash where the anchor points are far from the stem so the issue has become much more noticeable.

I tried my colleagues harness and that holds me in an upright sitting position.

I’m using a petzl sequoia.

Does anyone know what could be causing this and how to fix it?

Thanks

Hi Ryan,
It's really hard to answer your question without seeing you in the saddle. We suggest you find a decent tree service or another climber and ask him or her to observe you in your saddle.

The little i know of harness design, one functional aspect seems universal...they're set up so that you clip into something that has you supported by legs and back simultaneously. I wonder if you're connecting to just the legs...in which case, no back support. Or, maybe something on the harness needs adjusting to address the correlation between the legs and back.
