Home Made Throw Bag was created by chagahunter
Here is a version of a home made throw bag:

1) Empty plastic tube with a lid
2) Filled with taconite pellets (substitute BB's)
3) One or two key rings
4) Wrapped with brightly colored duct tape

I have used an 8 oz. bag for over twenty climbs. The photo is of a 12 oz. throwbag.

Hey, I like it! Reuse/recycling of items regularly thrown away is a great idea. I would only worry a little about colder weather (plastic breaking) or if it me on the way down. :S OUCH!

How does it react if it hits a limb dead on? Is there much bounce?

Micro sized Eye at top allows easy pull back.

Rubber tube over knot fits your grasp well with much better release control.

Lead shot inside tubular webbing is almost cylindrical shape flies tight; threads down to the ground; and snag less pull back if you dare.

Open loop on bottom end accepts arborist rope secured with a long loop Bowline; followed by a Dan House “Black Jack” rope sleeve will pull over your anchor point.

Bright optic yellow is easy for your eye to track; find and position.

Order now; operators are standing by.

See you at the top,

PS the other rig is the Black Beauty. A beefed up wrist-rocket frame to launch the latex tube throw bags accurate to 100 feet.

I like the idea of sealing lead shot up in a rubber bladder -- that is my plan. Discarded road bike tube is about the right diameter to go inside 2-inch webbing.

I used a balloon. It worked perfectly.

Would you like a lanyard spliced up, or anything else for that matter??? Give me a call- 323-384-7770 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

I haven't broken the plastic yet, but if it does break, I'll either put more duct tape on it or just throw it out and recycle another tube.

As far as it hitting me on the way down, well, I don't have any permanent bruises if that's what you mean. I'll keep you posted.

Also, I'm not a good enough shot yet to hit branches dead on. Usually the throwbag goes over the branch I'm aiming for. I guess I'll have to keep practicing until I'm a better shot! (Seriously though, it does have more bounce than vinyl bags, but not enough to be a problem.)

How about putting the weight in a pill bottle or ziplock bag, sticking that in a section of foam such as pipe insulation, pool noodle, or other, and then cover with duct tape?

Dan, in my reply I took the \"150\" width out of the image tag that the forum software automatically puts in when you post an image.

Here is one of mine. It is just 1\" tubular webbing filled with bbs. I then folded it over a ring and whipped it tight. Finally I took shoe goo and filled in all of the gaps to make it more sturdy and then I taped it to protect the whipping.

Oh yeah, I also dipped the end on liquid electrical tape.
