Black Max LT 12 Strand

Any thoughts on this rope? It is prettty inexpensive, and am wondering of any negative reviews you guys and gals may have.

Baileys has it for 64.95 for a 120' hank. Seems like a good deal as long as it is not total crap.

I think that 12 strand ropes in general have their downside compared with the double braid and 16 strand ropes.

Not hand spliceable
They tend to square off under load, after a while anyway.
They are \"Bumpy\" making them work different with friction hitches.
I think they tend to have more stretch.

I'm basing all of this on my experiences with Arbor-Plex.

I'm sure others have more experience and more information.

Well no point in considering it right now; the deal of the moment on rope is to go to Baileys or WesSpur and get a price on decent rope and then call Sherrill and ask them for their 150% price match. Then spend $100 and get free shipping.

Thank you but I am not sure I understand the 150% price match... does it mean they will be 50% less than the competitor?

I suspect it's total crap compared to a quality 16-strand. For 30 or so more dollars you can have an excellent rope with great characteristics, take a look at the Samson Arbormaster Bluestreak for instance. If you want to go light 11mm Blaze, New Tribe's Chameleon (green version of Blaze) or New England Ropes Fly are excellent ropes with many hundreds if not thousands of hours of use in the rec climbing community. I'd be wary of ropes that no one can say they've climbed on. Why take a chance on not being happy with a $64 purchase?

I think that you have to buy the same product from a competitor at a lower price and Sherrill will match it and give you an additional discount but you can not ask for one rope and compare it with a higher quality product and then ask for the discount/price match.
