ArborMaster Blue Streak question

Our center has been given a donation of a 150' hank of Samson ArborMaster Blue Streak rope to use at our Conservation Camp (brand new, in original pkg.) I have no problems using the rope to climb on, I'm just wondering if anyone has used this product, or has any opinions of it. Performance? Problems? Reviews etc.

Samson's Blue Streak was my first arbo rope. I like everything about this rope except is weight of 7.7 pounds per 100 feet. It is soft on the hands, easy to bend and tie, wears like iron, (rope sleeve will increase its longevity) and STRONG! wow 8,100 pounds.

Intial care of this kind of rope requires end whipping. You will need to tie one end to a fixed point; starting at the tighted end pull a prusik knot down its entire lenght many times. If the inner core becomes longer that the sheath you will need to trim it off and then whip both ends. I like bright orange braided dacron string that is used by fisherman to pull planer boards while trolling for ocean game fish. the bright color makes it easy to find an end when wrestling with a coil.

I'll second Treetramp's assessment. A great rope. I like to hang it as a rescue rope for my group climbs. I've never had to milk it but if you do decide to, Treetramps method sounds good to me.

It's a fine rope...especially at that price!!!

I would climb on it for a little while first to see if it is going to bunch up on you. Sometimes new climbing lines just don't milk at all.

If it turns out you need to do some milking work, Dan's method, like moss said, will work wonders. You can amp up the milking power of the prusik by using bungee.

I noticed that the ends of the rope are not heat fused like rock climbing and rescue rope. Is there a reason for this? Milking?

I think it's just random, I've purchased ropes that milk much more than Blue Streak and the ends were cut with a hot knife. My Blue Streak came with the ends fused. I'm surprised though with all the talk about Blue Streak milking, I've never thought of the 16-strand ropes as prone to milking, I've had several from different manufacturers and none of them ever milked. The hybrid static ropes (24-strand) like Fly, Poison Ivy etc. always milk, at least the ones that I own do.

The ArborMaster Blue Streak rope worked beautifully at our camp. No milking whatsoever. It is a tiny bit stiffer than the Safety Blue and Hi V we were also using. This was a plus as the friction hitch was slightly easier to advance for the smaller kids, and didn't get too tight with each climbers use.

The kids (and adults) had a blast.
