Black line and pecan trees

I think I made a mistake buying blackline for my throw line. It is pretty tangle prone and doesn't glide well on rough bark trees like pecan. I use a 14oz throw bag, but had to add some weight when throwing over the highest branch yesterday to get it to return.

Can anyone suggest a better line for rough bark?

Zing-it is the smoothest running line I have used so far. Rough bark is tough with any throwline, though.

I always end up going back to 1.75mm Zingit by Samson. I'll sometimes switch to 2.2mm on smooth bark like beech or sycamore. I've tried everything I could get my mitts on but they all seem to fall short of this reliable line. Just recently I bought 200' of 2.2 Dynaglide by New England rope co. I really wanted to like it but it just seems to heavy to carry the distance that I am used to. It also seems to be too fuzzy to slide over rough bark, and the dayglow green color fades very quickly leaving you with just another white throwline. One cool thing about it though is that it is spliceable.

Slickline is very good on grabby bark, use it with a 16 oz bag. The thicker diameter line doesn't snag on every little crack in the bark.

I agree with moss -- my practice tree is a big pecan in my backyard and slickline works well.

I like the new Target Line by All Gear. It is slick line but 3mm rather than the 4mm traditional slick line. It's pretty yellow and orange colors stay fast too. Not too bad on tangles either. A 1000 feet will cost you around $55. A bargain! Plenty of extra line to get tangled up in the tree or have those extra lines all cut and ready for a "bad throw day.".

I've yet to find a better throwline than Zing-it...and I've looked. They have a good formula of strong, low stretch dyneema fibers, and a tight weave that doesn't fray or snag. I recommend it.

I personally use the 1.75mm usually with an 8ounce bag.
