Can anyone help me identify the green rope used in the last few climbing techniques sections of the "Tree Climbing Basics" DVD (specifically the second pitch and descent)? It looks to be more of a solid green than Poison Ivy, and it also looks to be 1/2".

Thanks for any assistance!

Thanks JerseyGirl-- the DVD says 2006. I may try to send an email directly to TCI to simply ask the man directly! I did find a section in the video with a good close-up of the rope, and Peter states that it is an 11.5mm. Based on the close-up, I think it is Poison Ivy though.

Thanks!

Poison Ivy is the only arborist rope I know of that's spec'd at 11.5 mm, or sometimes I've seen it listed as 11.6. It came out in Feb-March '05 I believe or 'round about that time.

As they say in Texas- "Right from the horses mouth". Now this ain't from the bushes either, mind you. It's the first version of Poison Ivy. The most ninja color of ropes to date (green and black). Sorry- black is too gothic. There is a high visibility version of Poison Ivy that is useful for climbers that need to see where there rope is going. My 200 foot rope is high visibility PI for those long first pitches shot with a Big Shot.

Thanks Treeman for the confirmation! I just received my own PI from Sherrill today, and it feels as good as it looks. Can't wait for the weekend now to test it out!

I should also add that Treeman's "Tree Climbing Basics" video that sparked this question in this thread is fantastic, and is highly recommended for introducing newcomers to tree climbing concepts.

Thanks again Treeman!

I just wanted to say that I got the Poison Ivy rope as my first rope and I have just put it in a tree for the first time and hung on it. so far so good. I'm no expert but it feels great.

Also, thanks Treeman, for making the DVD. I've watched it several times and I keep referring back to it for little nuances as I learn. ..

I just got my Poison Ivy dirty for the first time in a nice maple in the woods behind my house...amazing!

Thanks Richard Preston for introducing me to the idea with his article "Climbing the Redwoods" in 2006, and his fabuous expansion of that story in The Wild Trees,

And of course thanks yet again to Treeman, for making it possible for someone to learn enough safety and technique from a DVD to be able to go out and try it themselves!

Even so, the next time my work takes me near Atlanta, I am definitely dropping in for an in-person training class on Rigging techniques.
