Sportline was created by ponderosa
I'm trying to see if anyone out there has any length of unused Sportline they might wish to sell me. If so, please let me know. Thanks.

Hello Harv, How long of a piece of Sportline do you need. I think I have about 12ft enough for a short lanyard
I have used the Blaze split tail that we made at the Rendezvous in MS and it works great on the Sportline. It is a little bit "fat" compared with some of my other split tails but itworks well and it does not "bite" on the down rope too hard. So give it a try if Nick gets you a tail with a small captive eye on one end. It is nice!

Oldtimer, I may take you up on that short piece - good enough for two split tails.

Nick, I appreciate the offer. Blaze is a little fat and heavy for what I need though.

Thanks to you both.

I would describe Blaze as neither fat nor heavy. I've never handled Sportline so I don't know compared to what. The only arborist rope that I've seen thinner than Blaze is Velocity. Fly, Blaze and Velocity all are described as 11mm but Fly is the thickest, then Blaze, then Velocity thinnest. At least that's my impression from handling them.

Moss, I didn't mean to diss Blaze in any way - fine rope. I believe that Sportline is 10mm and about 5lbs per 100', with Blaze at 11mm and about 6lbs.

Didn't take it that way :-) If my reply seemed abrupt it's because I'm working. Didn't realize Sportlline was so thin. Makes Blaze fat.
Thanks,

Moss, no prob. Work will do that to you - it should be avoided whenever possible. Blaze would certainly be better for a main rope. Sportline is very light-duty, but I like it for split tails and daisies.

Sportline is also a hollow braid construction. I do not think there are any hollow briad lines on the market now. I understand Sport line has been discontinued.

Peter, you are correct - it has been discontinued. I was able to pick up two hanks of Maverick, which was the beefed-up successor to Sportline, but didn't want to cut them up for these purposes.

Harv, what are you using them for? I might be able to recommend something else that would be comprable...

I just looked on Yale's site, and they have it listed as 7/16 (which is normally considered 11mm) but then they converted it as 10mm....

Was new tribe the last place to get that stuff?

Peter, Sportline is a single braid and has no core, so is technically a hollow braid...but it's woven so tightly that the hollow of the core doesn't really exist. It's much like samson's True Blue, Yale's newer Buzzzline and a few other manufacturers also make 12 strand single braid climbing lines.

I've never liked the 12 strands as climbing lines...but I've not climbed with them much. ;)

Nick, I actually got the Maverick from an outfit called Bashlin Industries - electrical lineworkers supply. They only had these two left. Got a very good deal and may use them as backup ropes.

I did not like the Sport line because it did not stay round. I personally like the nature of solid round ropes. Now back in the days when braided climbing ropes were new, there were many square ropes we arborists suffered through. But now life is different. Moe choices. 'An moe sho nuff is better as they say down south.
