I am an isolated novice climber and have several counties worth of the Oregon Coastal Range all to myself but I'm willing to share. There are abudant Sitka Spruce, a variety of pines, and with the exception of the ubiquitous alder, not too many deciduous trees, at least that I've discovered in this area. It's currently winter so I'm dealing with gales, hail, abysmal climbing conditions but no gunfire...so far.

Oh yeah...I forgot to mention spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean from the many tree saturated hills nearby.

Try Valley of the Giants. It's between the coast & Albany, Oregon. We climbed a 275' fir there.

Interesting...I never knew about the place. It's only about 15mi east of me(as the crow flies)about 30 by road it looks like.

Have any details, pix you'd like to share?

Eric

Black Fox Sugar Pine video

If you want to drive south for a bit, here's one over the state line near Mt. Shasta.
