Top roping?

I just did a week kayaking on the Buffalo River in Arkansas and after looking at all those beautiful bluffs I really wonder if anyone here has used their rope skills to explore such features? I believe the rock climbing term for this activity would be \"top roping.\" I'm sure it isn't legal where I was or in most parks -- most don't allow rock climbing. Certainly you'd have to adapt your tree climbing techniques somewhat...
