Today, Carbon County Environmental Education Center hosted its first \"Introduction To Recreational Tree Climbing\" Program. We had a pretty good turnout - about 20 people of all ages attended.

We began the day by viewing Peter's video and discussing safety, practicing knots, and learning Leave No Trace principals.

After lunch, we did a demo of DRT, SRT, and rope rescue (pick-off). Saddle sizes were limited, but we got anyone who wanted to try it, up about 35 feet into a nice red oak we call \"Dollar Tree\".

Overall opinions were good. One suggestion we did hear was to have a seperate day for the grown-ups!

After the program I recruited a couple of guys, who have done some climbing professionally, to help install Barred and Screech Owl boxes this coming winter.

All in all, a good day!

Good stuff Baker. I've noticed that at \"open\" climbs I've ended up with a ton of little kids (which is fine) but I need to schedule adults or teen only climbs to give the over 12 years old folks undivided attention.
