Big cypress climbing weekend-Central Texas was created by Tom Dunlap
On the weekend of July 13-15 I'm planning a campout at Krause Springs

Like a lot of place names in central Texas this one has a unique pronunciation: Krausie Springs ;)

The cypress there are HUGE!!! The bare trunks are probably 80-90' and the tops are probably 120 and more. This area has been in the Krause family for three generations so the trees haven't been logged.

Look at the website. The pools where the springs are have rope swings. There are hiking trails too. Hopefully we can have campfires...maybe even go snipe hunting too!

My plan is to go there early Friday or maybe even Thursday night and stake out a spot for us to camp together. If anyone needs camping gear let me know.

The fees for camping are cheap. Everyone will have to sign waivers. Be self sufficient for climbing. I'm going to bring a lot of extra gear along. Bring long ropes and lots of rope! Mark your gear...mine is already painted pink so don't choose that color!

The ascents/descents will be easiest using SRT. Traverses and in-tree could be done DdRT I guess.

If you have any questions ask away!

Tom

Please pass on this notice to anyone who might be interested. You're welcome to post this on any tree climbing forums too. Just paste in the link to the TreeBuzz thread too.

The main thing is that people need to be able to ascend about 80-90' of clear trunk on their own.

Strong limbs and single ropes!
