those pictures are amazing. i envy their picture taking abilities (and their cameras!). i bet a lot of us have some cool pictures of trees we have taken, maybe we should post them! i will search through my pictures and throw some up in a bit.

First climbed this red oak in February 06, back to it again in Feb. 07. This was a couple days before the recent northeaster hit. By the time I was in the top the clouds were moving in...

Sitka,
It's a white pine (Pinus strobus), a big gnarly one. It's on a chunk of Forest Service land called the "Lost 40" that was missed by some surveyors and so wasn't logged like most other stands in the area.

And this beauty, which I discovered near Acme, Wa. Itmight be the new state champion silver maple....It is 23.5 feet in circumference, and is as wide as 120 feet, but only 65-80 feet tall.

This grand tree is a state champion Northern Catalpa on the Ole Miss campus. The national champion Southern Catalpa is only about 20 miles from here but it's not as photogenic as this one. Because of the location you can't get far enough away from the tree to get it all in the frame, so I panned the camera with a normal wide-angle lens to get 4 photos of different parts of the tree and stitched them together in Photoshop.
