Climb Right Climb Gear??? was created by sitka12
hey, i was in my local saw shop today and noticed that they started selling some climb gear. i was in the market for a perfect pair carabiner and this one seemed good so i picked it up for 20$.

but now i'm starting to question it. i've never heard of "climb right" gear, and it was sold in a package saying "Spyder Manufacturing, USA." The whole thing sounds too generic and i'm not sure I want to trust my life to an unknown brand. the saw shop guy didnt know a carabiner from a pulley, so he's no help. i found nothing online about the company or the manufacturer. I found a similar "climb right" biner on ebay for 4$ new, leading me to believe that they might be cheap ripoff gear. does anyone have any info or advice? thanks!!!

ps, i wont climb on it until i get to the bottom of this!

I won't climb on it if I can't talk to the manufacturer first. I'm not saying I WILL talk to the mfr first, but I'd like to know it's an option.

Any idea WHERE it was made?

the package says "Spyder Manufacturing, USA" but there is no further information. The back says, "Climb Right HMS Tripple Lock, Part # 85252." But I'm with you. I might have wasted 20$, but I'm not climbing some unkown product just because I bought it. Unless someone can shed light on this little guy?

Call the seller back and see if someon higher up can help you.

Looks like a good biner. That's a key-lock, right? Maybe it IS good, but I'd rather know the source.

Does it really say

"HMS Tripple Lock," ??

if so, they cannot spell...attention to detail is important to me.

panthro! long time no read! "tripple" is a direct quote, and i wouldn't have caught that unless you pointed it out. the credibility of this biner takes yet another step in the wrong direction.

I looked into company using the info posted by beech bum and it looks like they are a lawn and garden equipment manufacturer. while i'll allow that trees do grow in gardens, i'm not sure how or why the mow and blow industry is making arborist climb gear. i guess it will just continue to sit on my desk for now.

I noticed that Wesspur sells "Climb Right" carabiners in their catalog.

mystery solved. had to call manufacturer using beach bums number. they gave me their web-address. I asked where the climb right biner was made, and he beat around the bush a little too much for my taste. Basically, he said some are made in Italy and others are made in China.

I asked, "Specifically which are made in Italy, and which are made in China?"

and he said,

"If it says 'Kong' on the carabiner, then it was made in Italy."

"Wait, does that mean you guys put your name on Kong products?"

"No, we used to sell a Kong carabiner, but we also sell climb right carabiners." Hm . . .

"So, I'm looking at a carabiner that says 'climb right' on the side. Was that made here in the US, Italy or China?"

"Well, none of our carabiners are made in America. Only China and Italy."

"Where are the climb right carabiners made?"

"Ch. . . Ch. . . China."
He said, in a voice indicating that he didn't want to say it. I dont know what I'm so concerned about. While living in Italy, I learned that virtually all manufacturers employ illegal Chinese immigrants. But Italian quality standards might be different than China's, so, I'm not going to be using this for life support.

Bad Biner. Return to seller. The rating is incorrectly stamped on the face and the price is overpriced. There was not warning included on the pachage It most likely does not meet ANSI Standards. A "cheap" chinese imitation I think.
