I just tried my first 40ish foot srt ascent yesterday. Everything went pretty well. I practiced my descent change over just a few feet off the ground and when I felt good I got up and did a little pruning.
Is it normal to have to do a little hop to unlock the figure 8? I had it hard locked during the change over and under load I had to do a little body hop to unlock it. Twice actually; one undo the hard lock and a second to undo the soft lock. Is that normal? If not, what am I doing wrong?
My change over procedure is:
attach figure 8
apply soft lock
pull blakes hitch down to load descent system.
make sure the descent system is supporting load
hop to un-hard lock
hop to un-soft lock

There is, nevertheless, a certain respect and a general duty of humanity that ties us, not only to beasts that have life and sense, but even to trees and plants. -- Michael Eyquem, seigneur de Montaigne
